The story is a period of author's life, in order to learning new language, he moved to Paris. And when he first arrived, it has a totally different environment and custom, he confront with great challenge. Author described two classmates who answered questions very particular. The conversation and activities between students and teacher help me build a clear layout about how the class run. Writer created a lot of wonderful characters, such as the two Polish Annas, one is the Argentine bandonion player, one is beautiful young Yugoslav optimist. And all the students exhibited an ease and confidence I found intimidating. As an added discomfort, they were all young, attractive, and well dressed, causing me to feel not unlike Pa Kettle trapped backstage after a fashion show. The movements is so detailed, for example: the teacher licked her lips, revealing a hint.  She crouched low for her attack, placed her hands on the young woman's desk, and leaned close. The description of circumstance is also specific,like: stopping for a coffee, asking directions, depositing money in my bank account. Fall arrived and it rained every day, meaning we would now be scolded for the water dripping from our coats and umbrellas. The climax of his story is when he felt not so lonely, compared to the teaching life of New York. Because the story has a tricky turning point, writer realized that understanding doesn't mean you can suddenly speak the language. Furthermore, he developed a great interest in learning language and had more willing to communicate with others. Author's ability improved, and his emotion became optimistic. According all i mention above, at the beginning of the the story, it has stuck a responsive chord in the heart of me, as an international student, study oversee without families and face problems alone made my mood dusky.  However, things get better when the times by, the whole section told me that no matter how hard life is, be optimistic, we should always smile to the difficulties and listen others' useful suggestions, the most important is learning and growing from the advise.

I think A Gringo in the Lettuce Fields is particularly interesting when we were discussing in the class.  This article is mainly about a New York Times author-Gabriel Thompson, in his first visit to the United States on the Mexican border field, observing and learning how to cut vegetables. The author describes in very detail how his companions cut lettuce.  in this observation, he saw every few seconds, Manuel bends over and grabs a head of lettuce with his left hand and cuts the lettuce with his right hand and separates the lettuce from the root.  Next, he picked up the lettuce, cut the second cut, and trimmed the trunk.  He shook the lettuce and let the outer leaves fall to the ground.  He took the blade in his hand, then brought the lettuce to his waist, and with a flick of his wrist, the head was wrapped and landed on the machine.  And then the author started the first attempt as a participator, At the beginning of the time, the author the action...
